Keni Harrison Breaks the 100m Hurdle World Record in LondonPublished by
Star Gets Redemption After Struggles at the Olympic TrialsBy Scott Bush Less than two months after running the third fastest time in history over the 100m hurdles, American Keni Harrison broke the world record at the London Diamond League meeting Friday, winning her race in 12.20. Harrison's performance broke the former world record of 12.21, set by Bulgaria's Yordanka Donkova in 1988, four years before Harrison was born. The former University of Kentucky star, who now runs for adidas, finished a disappointing sixth at the U.S. Olympic Trials earlier in the month, missing out on an Olympic Team roster spot. Despite the set back, Harrison regrouped and charged into Friday's contest determined to challenge the world record. Running with a 0.3+ tailwind, Harrison coasted over each hurdle, besting runner-up and reigning U.S. champion Brianna Rollins, 12.20-12.57. The world record performance gives Harrison six of the top seven fastest performances in the world this season, each of which has been run in 12.46 or faster. Watch the RaceMore news |
